Master of Laws in International Human Rights Law (Lund University, Sweden)

No other Masters of Laws program combines resources from a prestigious law school and an implementation-oriented human rights institution such as the Raoul Wallenbery Institute. Alumni career prospects are with international organizations such as the UN, NGOs, private law firms, and public authorities. This program requires a thesis with no internship option. Lund University has partner universities in over 70 countries and is ranked among the world’s top 100 universities.

Master of Philosophy in the Theory and Practice of Human Rights (University of Oslo, Norway)

These two master’s degree programs require completion of nine courses and the final part consists of a written thesis through which the student will acquire methodological and practical skills well suited to match a growing demand for professionals with a background in human rights. Jeffery Sachs instructs this course on Sustainable Development, He is of the world’s leading experts on economic development and activist in the fight to end poverty.   • Social Norms, Social Change I + II (UNICEF, University of Pennsylvania)

University of Pennsylvania and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) are jointly launching a free massive open online course on social norms and social change. The complete course, which consists of one theoretical and one practical part á 4 weeks coursework, is taught entirely in English. Students who already attended previous sessions of the course rated the first part of the course with 4.5 and the second part of the course with 5.0 out of 5.0 possible points. The first course will teach students how to make the distinction between social norms and social constructs, like customs or conventions. Academic Earth has a great selection of online courses; this one is on International Relations it includes sections on conflict, human rights institutions, and globalization. The course format uses a sequence of linked video lectures made available on YouTube. There are no assignments or student forum available but students can watch the videos at their own pace. Check out the many other alternative courses that aren’t offered anywhere else on the Internet, or in physical universities. There are various universities and modules related to human rights through education, policies, and health. Academic Earth takes pride in global sharing, facilitation of debates, and providing free access to everyone. This site might be simple and not as fancy as other MOOC, but it has compiled a massive amount of unique topics and materials.
