International Law In Action: Investigating and Prosecuting International Crimes is an online course offered by Universiteit Leiden in the Netherlands through the university’s Grotius Centre for International Studies.

The course is completely free; however, students who wish to receive a certificate of completion at the end of the four-week course must pay a fee. The class examines how international criminal cases are handled by the International Criminal Court and provides an overview of its functions, benefits and weaknesses.

Each week-long unit of International Law In Action: Investigating and Prosecuting International Crimes requires 2 to 4 hours of study time to complete. The course material is presented in the form of videos and readings. Most weeks, students will watch seven videos and complete one reading.

An exam is given at the end of the unit to see how much of the course material students have retained. The units include The International Criminal Justice System: Core Concepts and Foundations, The International Criminal Justice System: Justice Institutions and Procedures, Trying Perpetrators and Remedying Wrong and Look to the Future.
